Mukundrao Kagalkar

In 1925 The Mandal sent Kagalkar at Panchmarhi for scouting Camp. The director of the camp was Mr. Ross, an Irish man. From 1925 onwards Mr. Kagalkar has been the chief of the Mandal’s scout section. In Mandal’s summer camp he used to teach scouting.

In 1933 world scout conference was held at Budapest in Hungary. Kagalkar was sponsored by the Mandal to represent it. Another purpose in sending him there was to observe the youths from various countries and to give demonstration of the Indian Physical Education. He took the team of 20 youths along with him. They were trained duly in Lezim and Jodi and the team gave three demonstrations there. Kagalkar himself demonstrated the yoga’s and burning Bannetti. These demonstrations were given due publicity with photographs in Hungarian papers. He tried to wipe out the wrong impression in the minds of the foreigners that India knows no games except Cricket and Hocky. Youths from several countries took lessons in these games. Kagalkar toured Czechoslovakia, Germany, France and Switzerland. In Czechoslovakia they were given royal welcome as the Czech representative had given invitation on behalf of his Government.

He completed the ‘Gilwel’ course in England and obtained the certificate. After coming back he delivered lectures from July to Nov. at various places like Bombay, Nasik, Dhulia and Akola. At Amravati he was felicitated in the meeting under the president ship of Dadasahib Khaparde.

Even after retirement Kagalkar gives demonstrations of the yoga’s with the lectures on it. It is still going on at the age of 80.

After coming back from Jambori he was the official of the Amravati district scout association. In the sphere of scouts in India he is a well known personality. He loves traveling on foot. He was duly completed the journey of foot on the both sides of the river Narmada from its rise to the meeting point with the Arabian sea. He has secured the first prize of the competition arranged by the Kirloskar Magzine in walking on foot.
