Kantibhai Patel

Kantibhai Patel, a resident of Baroda is the Director of City Gymkhana. He is Baroda District Homeguard Commander for last so many years.
He is a Gold Medalist Vyayam Visharad of the Mandal.

Kantibhai Patel planned and organised the trip of the Mandal to Saurashtra-Gujrat in 1964.

It was because of his efforts that Mandal’s progamme was included in the Government Programmes on the Republic Day. A lot of publicity was given to the Mandal and provisions were made for the route march. As a result large gathering of 35-40 thousand spectators were present to witness the performance of the Mandal. The representatives of nearly 100 institutions had come with garlands and banquet to felicitate the Mnadal representatives.

The Sports Science Congress was convened by the Olympic Committee at Tokyo in 1964. It had invited the Mandal on this occasion. The Mandal selected Mr. Kantibhai Patel to represent it at Tokyo. He demonstrated Indian Physical Exercises before the large gathering of the representatives at Sports Congress. They were so impressed that he was asked to demonstrate again. It was due to his representation that the national tricolour flag was hoisted at the Sports Science Congress.

The youths of the City Gymkhana, Baroda, ably trained by Kantibhai Patel have earned fame by giving fine performances at Lucknow, Ahmedabad etc.
F.I.E.P. a world organization had convened Third International Physical Education Congress at Istambul, Turkey. Its organizer Mr. Kirson had invited the Mandal to send a team to represent India at Istambul. Kantibhai Patel was included in the team from Gujrat.
